About Lila McDowell Carlsen

Lila McDowell Carlsen is Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. She specializes in contemporary Latin American literature and culture, with a primary emphasis on the novels of Mexican and Southern Cone writers. Her work examines how the dystopian and utopian images evident in contemporary narrative dialogue with larger national and global discourses of power, language, and history. Prof. Carlsen was named Seaver Fellow in International Studies and Languages 2012-2013 and has presented her research at conferences in Mexico, Spain, and across the U.S.
