About Lifang He
I have taught a wide range of courses on Chinese language, literature, and film at undergraduate level in Asia and North America, which have a direct impact on my academic research. One of my research areas focuses on exploring what is essential to learning Chinese as a second language in a fast-changing world.
Selected publication: Duoyuan Wenhua Yujing Zhongde Hanyu Yuyin Xide (The Acquisition of Chinese Phonetics in Multicultural Context). Beijing: Social Sciences Press, 2017.
Women in Chinese literature is another area of my research. My forthcoming book is on a trailblazing work of China’s reminiscence literature, which recounts the life of a versatile courtesan in late imperial China.
Selected publication: The Reminiscences of the Plum-Shaded Convent: The Romance of a Literatus and His Concubine in Seventeenth-Century China. With Jun Fang. Hong Kong: Proverse, Spring 2019.
My current research, engaging students from my Chinese Cinema courses, aims to examine gender relations reflected in the works of modern Chinese women writers.
