Sustainable Rapid Design for Online Tutorials

Abstract
What does it mean to sustainably and rapidly design online tutorials? To the librarians at Kennesaw State University, this means that multiple tutorials can be fully designed, including: identifying a tutorial platform, determining learning objectives, identifying audience needs, writing instructional content, creating graphical elements, testing user experience, evaluating student learning, and revising tutorials prior to wide-spread dissemination. It also means that the development of tutorials needs to take place over the summer (three-month timeline) while participating librarians also complete their other job duties.
In this poster session, the presenters will outline a project management blueprint that promotes rapid design while also reducing project uncertainty and demands on librarian time. Analyzing their own experiences creating a suite of online tutorials during the summer of 2020, the presenters will share how they worked together while working apart to develop a project plan with task descriptions and timelines that helped them stay on target. Session attendees will receive insight into how they can develop their own online tutorial project management plan that reflects their institution’s staffing levels, technology affordances, deliverable deadlines, and unique student needs.
The presenters will share their own finished tutorial product, project management plan, sample project management outline, and a summary of best practices via an interactive Sway presentation. Attendance at this poster session will help attendees anticipate the hazards and benefits of rapid, distanced, collaboration.
