Abstract
This research looks at the effects of guided reading on language development and acquisition in the early elementary level and at the secondary level in a foreign language classroom. For this study, first grade students as well as secondary Spanish I students participated in guided reading activities. In the first grade setting, results were expected to show an increase in fluency in reading and writing techniques as well as a development in literacy skills. In the secondary Spanish I classroom, results were expected to show an increase in the understanding and usage of the Spanish language.
