About Leah W. DeAloia

Dr. DeAloia has taught part-time at Sinclair Community College, Dayton, Ohio, and Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio. As a teaching assistant, she taught at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She also taught as an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu. She earned her B.A. with a major in English and a minor in secondary education, and an M.A. in English Language and Literature, both at Miami University. She was a Rackham Pre-doctoral Fellow at The University of Michigan for her research on a useful definition of "post-modernism." Her field of concentration was fiction. While at Michigan, Dr. DeAloia received first place in the Majory Rappaport Poetry Contest and first place in the essay division for the Rackham Awards. She has received several awards, including a CultureWorks first-place award for fiction, and has published a number of book reviews, essays and short stories.

Dr. DeAloia has also worked as a copywriter and creative director for several local advertising/marketing agencies and, along with the creative team, has won creative awards in all media. She enjoys hang-gliding, hiking, spelunking, ice-skating, swimming, writing, reading, and film viewing and critiquing, and engaging in thoughtful or silly conversation. She is also an avid fan of Warren Zevon, Talking Heads, Paul Simon, Counting Crows, Train, John Mayer, Joan Armintrading, Mozart, Bach, and 3 Doors Down, among other musical artists. Her favorite authors include Tom Robbins, Joyce Carol Oates, Anna Quindlen, Annie Dillard, Gary Zukov, Alfred North Whitehead, Thomas Pynchon, Vladmir Nabokov, John Gardner, and works from the Medieval period.
