About Laura Bostick

Laura Bostick, Ed.D., serves as the Associate Director of Louisiana Tech University's UTeachTech program, a teacher preparation program through which STEM majors can earn a minor in Secondary Education and certification to teach high school along with their content degree. She also teaches undergraduate and graduates special education courses to teacher candidates.  Before entering the education field, Laura was a biomedical engineer at Johnson Space Center for over 17 years, where she staffed the Mission Control Center during Space Shuttle flights, trained astronauts and cosmonauts, and designed, built, and certified medical and life sciences hardware which flew on the Space Shuttle, the Russian Mir Space Station, and the International Space Station.  Laura’s interest in changing careers was sparked by the need to help her daughter, who was born blind, navigate her way through the educational system, leading her to pursue a master’s degree in special education, a graduate certificate in visual impairments, and a doctorate in educational leadership.  She obtained teaching certification in K-12 special education and visual impairments. She has presented at regional and national conferences, workshops, and professional development events on topics related to the education of children with disabilities. Her research interests include braille literacy, adapted physical education, and STEM accessibility.
