Abstract

This paper focuses on the analytical modeling performed in conjunction with high explosive shock tube testing performed at the University of Kentucky (U.K.). Two 5 ft × 10 ft curtain wall systems were modeled, of which one was tested by U.K. using a shock tube. The modeling efforts were performed using an existing commercial code, LS-DYNA. The results indicate that the dynamic response in terms of the center deflection of the glazing and the mullion were closely predicted using the numerical models. Additional investigations and comparison with field tests are recommended to improve the design of the curtain wall system and the predictions of the numerical model.
