About Kristin Uiterwyk

Kristin Uiterwyk joined the Urban Harbors Institute in September 2005. She holds a master's degree in marine affairs from the University of Rhode Island, and a bachelor's degree in human development from Boston College.

Kristin’s recent work includes projects focused on ocean use conflicts and compatibilities, shellfish management on Nantucket, the comparison of conventional moorings and conservation moorings, and workforce training needs in the marine trades. She has participated in the development of several harbor management plans, writing about topics such as local responses to climate change and sea level rise, water quality issues related to stormwater and failing septic systems, and issues of natural resource management.  Drawing on her educational background and interest in ocean science education and outreach, Kristin is the project manager for COSEE OCEAN, an NSF-funded project to increase ocean scientists’ awareness of and access to ocean science outreach opportunities, increase the capacity of ocean literacy at informal education institutions, and implement an ocean curriculum in the Boston and Milton public school districts.  Kristin also serves on the Management Committee for the Massachusetts Bays National Estuary Program.
