"Research by Dr Katina Michael, associate professor at the University of Wollongong School of Information Systems and Technology, exposes the risks of covert surveillance using GPS-enabled devices, which has moved from the hands of law enforcement into mainstream society thanks to the prevalence of smartphones.

Dr Michael and her husband coined the term "uberveillance" to describe the shift to mobile monitoring, which she says not only incites cyberstalking from strangers, but allows spouses, parents, friends and employers to police the people they know..."
