Review

Today is the perfect day for kite day! Bear and his best friend Mole excitedly make a kite for the special occasion. Soon the kite is soaring high up, up, up in the sunny sky. But when dark clouds suddenly come and the breeze turns into a harsh wind, the kite string breaks and Bear and Mole’s new kite flies away. They find the kite up in a tree sheltering a nest of baby birds from the rain. The mother bird is very grateful for the kite’s protection. Kite Day is a beautifully illustrated picture book with an engaging storyline perfect for young children. Teachers and librarians will appreciate the book’s educational value, particularly the playful use onomatopoeia throughout the text, as well as its positive themes of friendship, cooperation and sharing. Young children will enjoy the loveable characters and Hillenbrand’s classic watercolor illustrations. Highly Recommended. Kirsten Setzkorn, Centennial Library Intern, Cedarville University
