Abstract

Loosely based on the story of Helen of Troy and her return to Sparta after the Trojan War, LAUNCHING SHIPS is an interactive theatre piece that examines beauty and objectification. As Helen prepares for a formal gathering in honor of her homecoming, she grapples with her own internal demons. A woman once deemed as the most beautiful in the world, Helen arms herself to face the newer, younger, and opinionated public that only know her as a legend.
Through the use of projections and a live feed camera we play with objectification of the female body and blend physical storytelling with mediated forms. Audience participation is encouraged.
