This is a preprint of an article which first appeared in the 1999 Queensland Lawyer Vol 20, published by the ©Lawbook Co., part of Thomson Legal & Regulatory Limited,
With permission.

This paper summarises the scheme of rules for various types of amendments to proceedings, and looks particularly at issues concerning amendment to proceedings out of time, including: - the nature of the discretion to be exercised by the court in allowing amendments out of time; - the source of power to order amendments after the running of a relevant time limit; and - the effect of time limits imposed by statutes other than the Limitation of Actions Act Qld.
