About Katy Ryan

Katy Ryan is an Eberly Distinguished Professor of Teaching and an Associate Professor of English at West Virginia University. She teaches courses in twentieth-century American literature and drama. She has received the Neil S. Bucklew Social Justice Award, the WVU Foundation Outstanding Teaching Award, and the Eberly Outstanding Teaching Award. She is the Founder of the Appalachian Prison Book Project, a nonprofit that sends free books to people imprisoned in six states and that facilitates book clubs in two federal prisons. In 2012, she edited a collection of writings on the death penalty, Demands of the Dead: Executions, Storytelling, and Activism in the United States.
