About Kathy Lemon Osterling

Professor Lemon’s scholarly interests are focused on how child welfare practices and policies influence child and family well-being, particularly among culturally diverse populations. She is the author of several publications focused on reunification and permanency outcomes among children and families involved in the child welfare system; cross-system collaboration in child welfare, mental health, and substance abuse fields; and factors related to racial/ethnic disparities in the child welfare system. In collaboration with colleagues at SJSU, Professor Lemon is the recent recipient of a California Social Work Education Center grant, for the “Child Welfare Partnership for Research and Training” (CW-PART), an innovative university-agency partnership for research and training. She is also Co-Principal Investigator on a program evaluation of a federal grant for expanded foster parent recruitment and support services in Santa Cruz County.
