Abstract
The Student Chapter of the Society of American Archivists at the University at Albany focuses on exposing students to a wide variety of professional development opportunities within the archival and information science fields. These opportunities include visits to a variety of different institutions, question and answer panels with archival professionals within the Albany area, and sharing of internship and job experiences within the chapter. From locations such as art reference museums to academic special collections, and learning about fields such as preservation and collection development, the UAlbany chapter attempts to bring learning from professionals in the field to enrich our formal education within archival sciences.  The contacts which are developing through the chapter’s activities have created a web of professional acquaintances open to those interested in learning about specific archival topics from those currently practicing them. By allowing students to discover and expand upon their knowledge developed within the classroom environment, we are creating a setting where professional interests can be developed and grown.
