Virtual Research Consultations as an Instruction Opportunity for Adult Learners in Higher Education
South Carolina Conference on Information Literacy (2021)
  • Kathryn Eckler, Liberty University
Abstract
Virtual research consultations conducted over video conferencing platforms are a powerful collaborative space for engaging adult learners in higher education. Adult learners face numerous barriers in the higher education landscape, with the library being one concern among many. Virtual research consultations with librarians provide adult learners with research assistance and information literacy skills needed for academic success. In this mini lecture, learn how to identify adult learner needs, gain insight into how adult learners approach the information retrieval process, and explore how tailored virtual research consultations provide a platform for student engagement and information literacy instruction.
