Abstract

A review article on books by Catharine A. MacKinnon: Feminism Unmodified: Discourses on Life and Law & Toward a Feminist Theory of the State (Cambridge: Harvard U Press, 1987 & 1989, respectively [see listings in IRPS No. 62]). These works offer a reassessment of feminist theory's impact on law, including the ways that legal inquiry is framed & legal arguments constructed, & the knowledge claims on which both are based. Innovations by feminist lawyers are reviewed, & their conceptions of legal roles & relationships are described. Future steps feminists need to take to bring about legal reform are outlined. K. Hyatt
