About Kathryn M. Northcut

Dr. Kathryn Northcut is professor of English and Technical Communication at Missouri S&T. She was named Vice Provost of Academic Support effective 01 September 2021, after serving as Interim from February 2020. Dr. Northcut joined the S&T faculty in 2004 and was instrumental in building the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in technical communication. She received a 2017 Faculty Excellence Award for sustained excellence in research, service and teaching, and in 2018 was named Missouri S&T’s Woman of the Year. She is the co-editor of a book about science communication titled Scientific Communication: Practices, Theories and Pedagogies, which was published in 2019.

Dr. Northcut received a Ph.D. in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University in 2004; an M.A. in TESL from Colorado State University in 1995; and a B.A. in English from Western State College (now Western State Colorado University) in Gunnison, Colorado, in 1986.

Before coming to Missouri S&T, Dr. Northcut worked as a circulation manager for a newspaper, a legal assistant, an assistant director of a biological laboratory, a technical writer, and a lecturer in English.

At Missouri S&T, Dr. Northcut teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in visual communication theory and practice; pedagogy; and proposal writing.
