About Kathleen Cornely

I have been involved in quite a few different projects over my 20+ years here at Providence College. I teach a variety of biochemistry courses and I am interested in innovative pedagogies, such as teaching with cases and using the POGIL (Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) method for group work. My biochemistry laboratory course is run as a CURE (Course-based Undergraduate Research experience); students write a final paper based on their experimental results and there are several exemplary papers published here. My research focus changed a few years ago as a result of Providence College's affiliation with the SEA-PHAGES project. The mycobacteriophage ZoeJ was discovered on our campus and my research students continue to study this phage and related mycobacteriophages. Publications listed here are those in collaboration with the Hatfull lab at the University of Pittsburgh as well as by students here at Providence College.
