Supporting students on the margins

Abstract
The new Higher Education Standards Framework (2015) seeks to ensure through Domain 2.2 that higher education institutions provide equivalent opportunities for student success, regardless of their backgrounds (TEQSA, 2015). The move from elite to mass higher education means that some students begin studies without the capital necessary for immediate success. Indeed, many find the university experience 'foreign' and out of step with their world views. This presentation explores ways to keep students coming back. Strategies include collaboration between academic support units and academics and explicit support for student wellbeing, safety and belonging.
