Guest Dean's Deliberation: Revitalizing Education Studies with an Intentional Focus on Social Justice
School of Liberal Arts and Education Newsletter (2018)

Abstract
What is social justice? This is one of the first questions we pose to students in our new Education Studies program (to be implemented in Fall 2019). Though several components make this undergraduate program unique (e.g., lesson studies, fieldwork beginning the first semester, observation and participation in special education classrooms), the intentional social justice framing is the common thread across all seminars. A social justice perspective guides our discussions about teaching in today’s schools, from how we make curricular and pedagogical decisions to the ways in which we build inclusive learning environments with all students in mind.
