About Kate Phillippo

Following upon my career as a community- and school-based social worker, I research education policy and practice as experienced and enacted by a diverse array of actors, particularly students, teachers and school-based mental health professionals. I am particularly interested in how contextual factors (e.g., political, socio-cultural, professional, demographic, organizational) intervene in these processes and resulting implications for social and racial justice. My research program divides into two strands: 1) stakeholder enactment of contemporary urban education policy, and 2) schools’ and educators’ capacity to promote student wellness.
