Abstract
This final paper focuses on how the tone and purpose of wartime music in the United States shifted after the Vietnam War. This trend is analyzed through three songs: “Over There" by George M. Cohan (1917), “Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die" by Country Joe & the Fish (1967), and “The Great War" by Taylor Swift (2022). These songs show a decrease in nationalism, a decrease in support of military involvement in other countries, and in willingness to enter the draft.
