Abstract

Critically ill obese ventilated patients are at higher risk for complications due to metabolic alterations such as glucose intolerance, altered fuel utilization, and greater potential for loss of lean body mass. Indirect calorimetry should be used to assess energy needs. The goal of nutrition support for this population is to provide high-protein hypocaloric enteral feeding.
