About Karen A. Waldron

Professor Emerita Karen Waldron (Education) directed Trinity’s Special Education program for 28 years. She received her B.S. from SUNY New Paltz (English/Creative Writing), her M.S. (Certified Reading Specialist) and Ph.D. (Special Education Administration/Education Administration) from Syracuse University. She has published five books and numerous research articles concerning needs of underrepresented populations. In 2005, she received the Women in Communications’ Headliner Award for Professional Achievement for her national and international consulting, television and radio appearances. Her support for uninsured women with breast cancer was acknowledged by the Friends with WINGS Award (2006). As Mediator for Community, Family, and Child Protective Services cases, she received Bexar County Dispute Resolution Center’s Distinguished Service Award (2016). Family Service Association named her Volunteer of the Year (2017) for her involvement with Head Start families. She was a Founder of Winston School San Antonio, Trustee for George W. Brackenridge Foundation, and Director, Diagnostic Clinic, UTHSC Dept. of Child Psychiatry. She directed Trinity University’s Learning Clinic, “The Inclusive Network,” and community “Special Education Certification Program.” A member of Leadership Women Texas and Leadership Women International, she is also a Board member for Gemini Ink and currently completing a poetry collection.
