About Karen S. Mitchell

Karen Mitchell ( PhD, Louisiana State University) teaches courses in performance studies, communication studies, and communication pedagogy. She is the former Artistic Director of UNI Interpreters Theatre and the founding director of SAVE (Students Against a Violent Environment) Forum Actors. Her work with SAVE was originally part of a major grant to combat gender violence on campus, awarded by the Department of Justice. The SAVE Forum Actors model, developed by Mitchell and her students, has been implemented at several institutions including Iowa State University, and the University of Iowa. She was a Diversity Fellow in the Office of the Executive Vice-President and Provost at UNI from 2012-2014.
