About Karen M. McCurdy

Professor McCurdy is currently engaged in a cross-disciplinary research project with Congress and Geology.  This project reflects a long standing interest for her in mining policy and federal lands policy that has suddenly become relevant again in the national and global discussion about resource exploitation.  A course in Energy Policy was successfully piloted in 2011.  This project and teaching is balanced against her administrative duties as Executive Director of the Southern Political Science Association.  For the tenth year, GSU students gain hands on experience in hosting the second oldest Political Science conference in the United States.  Two to three graduate students are employed year round with the Association, while 6-10 additional students are employed to travel with us to work conference registration at the host city.  Success for the Association has meant that an ever growing number of GSU students and Political Science department faculty are involved in collaborating with our colleagues around the country and the world to build the intellectual community necessary to sustain our discipline.   The 2016 SPSA meeting will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and bilingual students and faculty are being recruited to assist the outreach into Central and South America being planned by the Officers of the Association.
