Abstract

First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all parties involve in the contribution of the contents of the book. Without their efforts this book publication will never be made possible. This book summarizes the research experience of Chuen-Tat Kang comprehensively from year 2005 in Australia. Most portion of the book describes the biocatalysis research held in Swinburne University of Technology (www.swin.edu.au) and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) Australia (www.csiro.gov.au) during the postgraduate doctorate studies in year 2005. Portion of the content of the scientific research experience could be viewed at the website http://chuentat.tripod.com. The content of the research, mainly relevant to the aspect of the biochemistry of 1,3-propanediol dehydrogenase, has been enriched from year 2006 to 2008 as updates on the progress of the research studies from time to time. Other aspects of studies, although are not directly related to the specific biochemistry field abovementioned, has also been included as supporting material to overview the additional project beyond the specific field of studies that is complimentary to various requirements of tertiary studies experience. This will include but not limited to academic aspects of research like chemical engineering quiz with biotechnological component, research organizational management, research supporting activities etc. Although most aspects of emphasis in this book are biocatalysis, practical and laboratory concepts have also been included, serving as future reference for those scientists that are currently conducting similar research studies in the newly-developed universities that require creative and innovative postgraduate research program design, suitable not only in Australia but also at international levels. Enzyme catalysis covers wide range of studies that should not be limited to biotechnological aspects but should cover also mthematics, physics, psychology, organization and business management etc, suitable to the environment and situation faced by the author during the abovementioned self research studies. The author strictly opposes the static and inflexible nature of the research environment that will never help to look forward further for new research institutes, but should encourage more open learning before proceed to typical studies s in this book.
