Abstract

A method of designing the reinforcement in the anchorage zone of a post-tensioned prestressed concrete beam is discussed. It involves the determination of the bursting tension in the anchorage zone by making use of a set of design curves that are given. These design curves have been obtained from a detailed, three-dimensional, theoretical and experimental analysis of the stress distribution in the anchorage zone. The amount of reinforcement required for resisting bursting tension can then be determined. Several examples are given to illustrate the use of the design curves.
