Her scholarly interests include the social construction of health and illness (particularly responsibility for health and illness and the nurse-patient relationship); interpretive methodology; and loss, death, and grief. Caring and Responsibility: The Crossroads Between Holistic Practice and Traditional Medicine (University of Pennsylvania, 1989 and 1992) reflects many of these concerns.
