Heritage Management (2009)

Abstract

The Heritage Tourism industry has grown rapidly in the last decade, fueled by multi-media promotions and content-rich web sites that seek to entice onsite visits by consumers. Heritage web sites play an important role in educating the public about Indigenous people, cultures, and traditions. Despite good intentions, many web sites improperly represent Indigenous people. In this article, I will lay out a number of resources that can be used towards the evaluation and design of heritage web sites that represent Indigenous people in their own voices. There are links to online content evaluation guides, Indigenous heritage web sites, and guides for consultation with Indigenous communities.
