About Julie Tyler

Julie Tyler, O.D., FAAO received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Creighton University in 1992 and her Doctor of Optometry degree from Indiana University School of Optometry (IU) in 1996. Following graduation, she received a Residency certificate in Primary Care from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry and was Chief Resident prior to joining the faculty full-time in July of 1998.

Dr. Tyler is currently a Module Chief of Primary Care at The Eye Care Institute at Davie and has been a clinical preceptor in numerous NSU clinics including third and fourth year primary care, contact lens and cornea, and as an adjunct for the West Palm Beach VA hospital. She has served in a variety of leadership roles within the college, including chair of the faculty council and several committees; she has, also, served as a clinical examiner and site coordinator to the National Board of Examiners of Optometry (NBEO) and on the admissions committee of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). During her time at Nova Southeastern, Dr. Tyler has been promoted to Associate Professor and has received numerous teaching awards, including “Teacher of the Year” from several classes. Dr. Tyler is a guest lecturer for the ocular disease and therapeutics course covering the anterior segment, as well as the optometry theory and methods I course. She has developed lectures and workshops for regional, national and international continuing education presentations.

Dr. Tyler has authored several posters for SECO International, the American Academy of Optometry, and the American Optometric Association annual meetings. In addition she has published articles in Optometry and Vision Science, Clinical and Experimental Optometry, and Review of Optometry, including a featured article on Lyme disease. Dr. Tyler is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA).
