Tell Ertl Oil Shale Repository: Delving into ContentOil Shale Symposium - Colorado School of Mines (2011)
A resource evaluation of the special collections within the Tell Ertl Oil Shale Repository in the Arthur Lakes Library at the Colorado School of Mines shows how its materials can provide valuable data in the contest of current research, development, and permitting efforts. An overview of media archived at the repository includes: photos, maps, architectural drawings, 35 mm slides, oral histories, reel-to-reel film, and technical reports related to a variety of closed or defunct mines, businesses, government organizations, and the industry’s famous icons. The collection includes research on subjects such as: water, ground water, oil shale reserves, demonstration plants, economic forecasts detailed development plans, revegetation lease agreements, chemical analysis of oil shale, environmental impact assessments, and environmental baseline standards. The information contained in many of these documents can provide a much deeper data pool for today’s research. Tell Ertl Oil Shale Repository staff are working to make these materials widely available to interested parties. A status report of projects associated with the repository includes digitization procedures, future projects, and a strategic plan for enhanced accessibility of digital materials.
