About Judy McCook

Judy McCook is an Atlanta native, a professor and nurse researcher with more than 35 years’ experience in nursing education, perinatal clinical practice and investigating women’s reproductive health. Dr. McCook is a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) in maternal-infant nursing and is certified as an Adolescent/Adult sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE-A). Her initial research began at the University of Michigan on a team investigating menstrual cycle neuroendocrinology. Dr. McCook’s dissertation research examined the bio-behavioral impact of infertility on women with polycystic ovary syndrome. She relocated to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in 1997 where she taught women’s health, bioethics and research to undergraduate and graduate nursing students pursuing masters, DNP and PhD degrees. Dr. McCook serves as the interprofessional representative for nursing in ETSU’s Academic Health Science Center, where interprofessional care is provided for rural and underserved populations in south central Appalachia. Her current research interests/community interventions include examining the bio-behavioral impact of childhood trauma (adverse child experiences score ACEs) and providing trauma informed patient centered care to sexual assault survivors. She is currently the grant administrator for the Advanced Nurse Educator-Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for the 3-year HRSA training grant.
