Abstract
Good ethnographies rely on good fieldwork, and the quality of fieldwork is, many would argue, improved by training and preparation. More and more frequently graduate and even undergraduate students take courses in research methods as a degree requirement. This is certainly the case at my own home institution, where methods are a key component of the graduate core curriculum and the undergraduate Qualitative Research Methods course, taught each quarter, is a gateway to the major. I am one of the instructors for the qualitative methods class, and am always on the lookout for textbooks suitable for this course. Thus it was with classroom use in mind that I approached Blommaert and Dong's beginner's guide.
