About Juan Arias

Juan Esteban Arias is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in physics at the University of Central Florida (UCF). As a dance instructor for UCF’s Latin dance club, Juan found a passion for teaching. Through research, he found a passion for science. In combining the two, he hopes to explore science and inspire others as a chemistry professor in a university. Since 2016, Juan has worked on developing a bifunctional pH & fluorescence modulation system using novel metastable-state photoacids under the guidance of Dr. Karin Y. Chumbimuni-Torres. He has obtained several undergraduate research awards and grants through the University. Also, he presented at the Showcase for Undergraduate Research Excellence (SURE) in spring of 2017. Currently, Juan is performing computational studies on metastable-state photoacids with the assistance of Dr. Florencio E. Hernandez.
