Abstract
This chapter addresses the integrality of UCS and multicultural perspectives in such a way that barriers to understanding shift and opportunities for healing prevail. The evolution of nursing science can be seen in the ongoing dialogue that addresses the question, What is nursing science? (Barrett, 2017). Inquiry on the knowledge base important to the discipline of nursing was clearly articulated by Newman, Smith, Pharris, and Jones (2008). A unitary perspective was articulated that embraced “a traditional scientific approach, a multi-dimensional evaluation of the interactive milieu” (2008, p. E16), and the direct/embodied experience of expanding consciousness in human form within the cosmos. Seven concepts, which merge as a unitary whole, became the praxis (theory, reflection, and practice in action) of nurses as they related to patients.
