Abstract
The direct experience of the sacred within self is revealed as the essence of nursing when the Caritas Processes® of Watson’s theory of nursing are practiced and articulated through the lens of a unitary worldview. New definitions emerge, as care and compassion unfold in human relationships amidst the activities of daily life and work. A description of the process of expanding consciousness within the nurse unfolds as caring and love are exemplified. The sacred within self is directly known as spirit, natural order, and science meld; harmonic coherence builds, and resonates systemically. Praxis of unity or “caritas consciousness” within the nurse is exemplified as the sacred Self (that light, aspect of the higher Self, creative life force, within each and every person that is One with the divine nature of all creation).
