About Josh Harrower

Josh Harrower, Ph. D., BCBA-D is the Lawton Love Distinguished Professor of Special Education and Interim Chair of the Department of Education and Leadership at California State University, Monterey Bay. Dr. Harrower also coordinates the Special Education Credential Programs and the university’s Certificate Program in Behavior Analysis, and holds certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D). Dr. Harrower received his doctoral degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara where he worked with Drs. Robert and Lynn Koegel in the Koegel Autism Center. After a post-doctoral fellowship at West Virginia University, Dr. Harrower went on to work at the University of South Florida where he coordinated a number of state and federal grants providing in-service training and consultative services to schools in the area of functional assessment, behavior intervention and positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS). Dr. Harrower’s primary areas of scholarly interest focus on PBIS, autism spectrum disorder, applied behavior analysis, pivotal response treatment, functional behavior assessment and behavior intervention. In total, Dr. Harrower has been awarded over $5 million in external funding for personnel development and school climate transformation projects. Dr. Harrower has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions since 2004, is a member of the Editorial Board of Focus on Autism and Other Developmental Disorders, and is a regular presenter at a number of national conferences including the Association for Positive Behavior Support and the Association for Behavior Analysis International. His research and conceptual articles have been published in scientific journals including the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions, the Research and Practice for Persons with Severe Disabilities, Preventing School Failure and Exceptionality.
