Abstract
For over three decades the outcome of NBS work has been a better understanding of the epidemiology of sickle hemoglobinopathies in newborns, consequent life saving care protocols, and effective provider & public education.
Despite well funded projects, NBS follow-up efforts have been and remains problematic. Very little has been documented about the effectiveness of follow-up of NBS. A joint 3 year effort between the SCDAA and the MCHB of HRSA began in 2002 with their SCD NBS.
