Abstract

Nonprofit management is the study and practice of running organizations motivated by a primary purpose other than profit-seeking. Legal issues of nonprofit management are those aspects of regulatory public policy that apply with unique force to managers of nonprofit organizations.

Nonprofits encompass a wide variety of organizational forms, purposes, and activities, and the full scope of legal issues faced by a nonprofit leader can vary widely depending on sector, structure, and country. Legal issues relating to nonprofit organizations fall into roughly three categories: organizational, tax-exempt, and operations.
