Abstract
My first exposure to religious extremism and its violent consequences was in Ahmedabad, India. I wrote a case study on the work of St. Xavier's Social Services Society ("St. Xavier's" for short), a humanitarian non-governmental organization (NGO) founded and run by Jesuit priests. St. Xavier's had built bridges between people of different faiths that were considered a foundation upon which to build violence prevention capacity (Bock, 1999).
