About Joseph Adu

Dr. Joseph Adu is a Public Health expert who started his career as a registered nurse in Ghana in 2001 having completed a three-year certificate program in general nursing. Having worked for three years as an RN at the sub-district level, I furthered my education to obtain a bachelor’s degree in psychology with Sociology from the University of Ghana between 2004 and 2007. I returned to the Korlebu Teaching Hospital to work as an HIV/AIDS Counselor for one year. In 2009, I joined the Accra School of Hygiene where I taught Health Sociology, Health Psychology, and Community Mental Health. He also supervised project works of final year diploma students in the Environmental Health Technology program at Accra School of Hygiene from 2009-2014. While teaching at the Accra School of Hygiene, I gained admission to the University of Ghana Business School to read my Master of Philosophy in Business Administration (Health Services Management option) from 2011 to 2013. I taught while reading his masters in Ghana and combined teaching and internship at the Mamprobi Hospital after my MPhil degree. I acted as the head of Administration at the Mamprobi Hospital before traveling to Canada in 2014 for a Master of Science degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I recently completed his Ph.D. at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He has extensive teaching and research experience in both Canada and Ghana. Currently, Dr. Adu is a post-doctoral scholar at Toronto Metropolitan University in Ontario, Canada with a focus on black people's mental health and related stigma. My research interests are mental health and mental illness stigma, maternal health care and mental health outcomes, NCDs policies. I have over 20 peer-reviewed articles with additional 8 manuscripts in various stages of publication.
