About Jonathan C. Augustine
Rev. Jay Augustine is an adjunct professor of law at the Southern University Law Center and former Beane Fellow and National Rainbow-PUSH Coalition Foundation Presidential Scholar at United Theological Seminary. He has also done post-graduate work at Princeton Theological Seminary. Professor Augustine is an experienced litigator who has taught doctrinal, advocacy, and legal writing courses. He is currently the senior pastor of Historic St. James AME Church (New Orleans). He also previously served as vice president of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board, the governing body of Louisiana's largest public school district. His research and writing interests include education law & policy, law & religion, and race & the law. Professor Augustine began his professional career as a law clerk to Louisiana Supreme Court Chief (then-Associate) Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson.
