About Jonathan Walker

Professor Walker joined the faculty at Sacred Heart University after spending twelve years as a professional graphic designer in the metropolitan New York City region. During that time he was the Design Director for a national sports magazine from its start up phase through its sale and integration to publishing giant Scholastic, Inc. Prior to arriving at Sacred Heart University, Professor Walker spent two years as a freelance designer in web site and multimedia design, as well as continuing work as a print designer. His clients ranged from Fortune 100 company Philip Morris Management Corporation to marketing giant Ryan Partnership to small local companies. His work at Soccer Jr. Magazine and Philip Morris Management earned an Apex Award for excellence in magazine publishing and a Golden Quill Award from the IABC for newspaper publishing excellence, respectively.

Professor Walker specializes in editorial design for print, web, and multimedia. Being a working professional designer as well as a full-time teacher, he constantly addresses the issue of remaining completely up-to-date on all software and hardware systems as well as the issue of the rapidly evolving demands of the commercial design environment. He is also the creator of A&D, a new completely digital magazine devoted to teaching design in the liberal arts undergraduate environment.

A highly versatile, highly motivated educator, designer, and art director committed to the process of making visual the non-visual aspects of communication, Jon Walker has over a decade of teaching experience at the university level, and over twenty years devoted to communication through design by exploring a variety of media including print, internet, and multimedia, as well as theater, theme parks and architecture. He is thoroughly versed in all the leading software applications as well as possessing highly developed traditional fine art skills.
