Hybridity, History, and the Identity of the Television Studies Teacher

Abstract
In this article the author discusses teachers in the discipline of television studies and examines various influences to their identity formation in contemporary higher education. He presents a brief historical background on the evolution of television studies as an academic subdivision of media studies and examines how elements such as new media and interdisciplinary studies have impacted the job market for television studies scholars. Other topics include aspects of cultural studies that shape the scholarship of television studies as well as the influence of technology on television studies curriculum.
