Abstract

This study describes a framework for analyzing the dynamic behavior of power electronic converters with randomly varying loads and sources. A continuous-time load process and dynamic converter model are combined as a stochastic hybrid system (SHS) model. The SHS model enables straightforward calculation of dynamic state moments, which may be used to assess the probability of desirable operating conditions. Zero voltage switching (ZVS) in a dual active bridge (DAB) converter is considered as a case study. The probability that ZVS conditions are satisfied is assessed in two ways. First, an approximation is obtained from first and second moments. Second, a lower bound on the probability of ZVS is determined from Cantelli's inequality.
