Before the Civil War resumed in South Sudan in 1983, efforts to combat tuberculosis were heading towards success. Today, however, tuberculosis is a serious health problem among the internally displaced and refugee population of South Sudan. (McCarthy et aI., 1995). It is estimated that 20,000 Dinka live in displaced persons' camps and around relief centers in Northern Bahr el Ghazal of southwestern Sudan (hereafter Western Dinka).
