Promoting Biology Major Success in a Christian Centered Program
John Stout, Ph.D., Emeritus Research Professor
During a period of large changes in the biology faculty, the continuing faculty proposed to enhance the success of current and future biology majors. The changes included improvements in: a) mentoring; b) the cultural/social, Christian, environment; c) class and lab focus on student insight/understanding; d) student research. These changes seemed to work and attracted support by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for deeper analysis. A very positive report to NSF led to continuing analysis – resulting in this presentation. This report documents unusual success by biology majors both during the completion of their biology major, and in the opportunities for career choice and training following graduation.
