Abstract
The author, a Vincentian missionary in China, describes the cemetery of the ancient village of Tcheng-fou-sse, located west of Beijing. Originally a cemetery of the French mission, it continued to serve the Jesuit and Vincentian missionaries. Its challenges over the decades are explained, including its restoration to the Catholic Church in 1860, and the further restorations in 1907 and 1917. Illustrations and drawings of the locations of the known graves are included. -- A second section deals with the ecclesiastical history of the village itself. -- An appendix gives transcriptions of the epitaphs present at the time of writing. These include several Jesuits and Vincentians.
